How the Right Click CPS Test Works

This test counts every press of the secondary mouse button inside the box and divides by the timer length to give your right clicks per second. Left clicks are ignored, so you can't raise your score with the other button by mistake.

Normally a right click opens the browser's menu. Inside the box that menu is switched off, so you can click freely. Outside the box, right click behaves as usual.

How to Test Your Right Click Speed

  1. Pick a length: 5 seconds is the default. Choose 1 second for a burst, or 30 to 60 seconds for stamina.
  2. Put the pointer inside the box and rest your middle finger on the right button.
  3. Right click as fast as you can until the timer ends.
  4. Check your result against the table below. Your best score for each length is saved on this device.

What Is a Good Right Click CPS?

Right Click CPSLevelWhat It Suggests
Under 5RelaxedNormal everyday clicking
5–7AverageTypical with the middle finger
8–10FastPractised clicking, good for bridging
10–14Very fastJitter clicking on the right button

Compare your right click score with your left click score on the CPS Test. A big gap usually means your middle finger needs practice, not that the mouse is at fault.

Right Clicking in Minecraft

In Minecraft, right click places blocks and uses items, so right click speed matters in different ways from attacking:

  • Bridging: fast, rhythmic right clicks place blocks in front of you as you move. Techniques like speed bridging and god bridging rely on steady clicks more than raw speed.
  • Block clutching: placing a block under yourself as you fall needs one fast, well-timed click.
  • Throwing items: snowballs, eggs and ender pearls are thrown with right click.

Many servers limit how many clicks they accept per second and flag unnatural patterns, so check the rules before using butterfly or drag clicking.

Right Click Techniques

  • Middle finger tapping: the normal method. Keep the finger slightly raised so each tap is short.
  • Jitter clicking: tense your forearm to vibrate the middle finger. Fast, but hard to keep up and tiring.
  • Drag clicking: drag a fingertip across the right button so it bounces. It works on some mice and not others, and it wears switches faster.
  • Switching fingers: some players move their index finger to the right button for speed tests. It's faster but impractical in games.

Right Button Problems

The right button gets less use than the left, but its switch can still wear out. If a single right click opens and closes a menu, or this test counts more clicks than you made, the switch is probably chattering. Check it with the Mouse Double Click Test. A right button that sometimes doesn't respond at all usually has dirt in the switch or a worn contact.

Left vs Right Click Speed: Why They Differ

Most people right click 10 to 30 percent slower than they left click. The middle finger usually rests on the right button, and it is less practised at fast, repeated presses than the index finger. Mice also differ: some have a stiffer right switch, or a right button shaped so your finger sits further from the pivot, which needs more force.

Test both buttons on the same day and compare. If your right button is far slower, practise short right click runs. If both are slow, the mouse itself may be holding you back, so check it with the Mouse Polling Rate Test and the double click test.

Right Clicking on a Laptop Touchpad

You can take this test on a laptop without a mouse:

  • Windows precision touchpads: tap with two fingers, or press the bottom-right corner of the pad.
  • Mac trackpads: click or tap with two fingers. Check that Secondary click is turned on in System Settings > Trackpad.
  • Chromebooks: tap or click with two fingers, or hold Alt and click.

Touchpad scores are usually lower than mouse scores, since tapping takes more movement. Compare touchpad results with other touchpad results.

A Simple Practice Plan

  • Warm up with two 5 second runs at a relaxed pace.
  • Do three 10 second runs at full speed, resting 30 seconds between them.
  • Finish with one 30 second run to build stamina.
  • Track your best 10 second score over a week. Steady practice usually adds one or two CPS.

Mouse Settings That Affect Right Clicks

  • Swapped buttons: if your operating system is set for left-handed use, the physical left button becomes the right click. The test counts whichever button the computer treats as secondary, so switch the setting back or use the other button.
  • Button remapping: gaming mouse software can assign macros or other actions to the right button. Turn these off so each press sends one normal right click.
  • Click lock and accessibility settings: Windows ClickLock and similar features change how held clicks behave. Turn them off while testing.
  • Wireless sleep: some wireless mice drop the first click after waking. Move the mouse before starting so it's awake.

Is Right Click Speed Worth Training?

For most people, no: everyday right clicks are single presses. It's worth practising if you play games where the right button places blocks, uses items or fires a secondary weapon in quick succession. Practise in short sessions, and if your clicks start registering twice, stop and check the switch with the Mouse Double Click Test before it gets worse.

Limitations

The test counts the right clicks your browser receives. Clicks remapped by mouse software, extra clicks from a faulty switch and clicks from auto-clickers all count the same way. Mac Control-click is reported as a left click, so it isn't counted. On touchscreens, a long press isn't a right click and won't count either.

Frequently Asked Questions: Right Click CPS Test

Why doesn't the right-click menu open?

Inside the test box, the browser's right-click menu is turned off so it doesn't interrupt the test. Everywhere else on the page, right click works as normal.

What is a good right click CPS?

Most people right click a little slower than they left click, because they use their middle finger. Around 5 to 7 CPS is average, 8 to 10 is fast, and jitter or drag clicking on the right button can push past 12.

Can I use this on a Mac trackpad?

Yes. A two-finger click or tap on a Mac trackpad counts as a right click. Control-click does not count, because the browser reports it as a left click with the Control key held.

Why do Minecraft players test right click speed?

Right click places blocks and uses items. Fast, steady right clicking helps with bridging techniques, placing blocks quickly in fights, and throwing items like snowballs or pearls.

My right click count is higher than my clicks. Why?

A worn or dirty switch can register one press as two. Run the Mouse Double Click Test on the right button. If it flags double clicks, the switch is chattering.
